CFL And LED Energy-Efficient Bulbs

Continuous advancements in the technologies of appliances around us keep updating the store-shelves with better versions which are more efficient in matters of performance and consumption of energy. It was only in the 1920s that the Incandescent or Filament Bulb had been introduced and now we hardly find any of them in use today. Electrical Lighting of households and exteriors are now primarily done by CFL and LED Bulbs.

CFL Bulbs: CFL Bulbs or Compact Fluorescent Lamp Bulbs use phosphors which provide a warm and gentle light. The prototype of the modern CFL Bulbs was invented by Peter Cooper Hewitt in 1890. The photographic studios and industries made use of these prototypes. However, modifications were made and many designs later, the modern CFL were made available in the shops.

LED Bulbs: LED Bulbs or Light Emitting Diodes is a semi-conductor light source, initially used in sign-boards and other displays. However, technological advancements have ensured that the LED Bulbs are also being used for conventional lighting purposes. Apart from the conventional semiconductor diodes, LED Bulbs also use organic LEDs (OLED) and polymer LEDs (PLED). The LED bulbs are also gaining popularity in use.

Both CFL and LED Bulbs enjoy distinct advantages over the outdated Incandescent Bulbs. The most important advantage is the significantly lower consumption of energy. In fact, the Energy-Efficiency of CFL and LED Bulbs is so high that Sri Lanka has banned the import of Incandescent Bulbs and countries like Australia are on the way to impose a total ban on Incandescent Bulbs. Even without the ban, the Incandescent Bulb is hardly used nowadays with CFL and LED Bulbs dominating the market of household lighting. For the same unit of lumens (unit of light), a LED Bulb uses 6-8 watts and a CFL Bulb uses 13-15 watts whereas an Incandescent Bulb uses 60 watts of energy. Thus, CFL and LED Bulbs are preferred due to their Energy-Efficiency.

Apart from the efficient use of energy, the CFL and LED Bulbs also last longer and are thus cost effective in more ways than one.

Even though LED and CFL Bulbs come with warranty statements, it is advisable to buy them from a reputed company so that the inconvenience of using the warranty card does not even arise. One such company is LedLightDepot which provides the online sales of lighting in households and industries. Quality lighting products can be obtained from LedLightDepot at www.ledlightdepot.co.uk.
